First Philosophy Grads

The First Six Students to Graduate from ECU with A BA in Philosophy

The first record of the Department of Philosophy is in the 1964-1965 ECU catalog.

First Graduation Class

In May of 1965 Noel Houston Tisdale was the first student to graduate from ECU with a BA in philosophy. He also did a second major in psychology.

Second Graduation Class

At this time, ECU was on the quarter system. Another graduation was held at the end of the summer quarter in August of 1965. Cleveland John Bradner, III was the second student to graduate from ECU with a BA in philosophy.

Third Graduation Class – First Woman Graduate

The third class, in May of 1966, saw the first woman graduate with a BA in philosophy: Ann Cornelia Overton. She was one of a class of four, the other three students being Richard Carlton Leggett, Henry Barry Gillen and Walter Matthew Jacob.
